GAINESVILLE, FL (352today.com) – Families living in Alachua County with students from pre-kindergarten through 10th grade are invited to dive into a world of academic and career enrichment.
The Alachua County Public School District’s Magnet Program application season is your chance to apply for your child’s passage into one of the county’s academic or career technical (CTE) magnet programs.
The window to sign up opens at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 16, and closes at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 13.
This year, there’s a twist in the selection process; with educational equity in mind. Half of the new students in each magnet program will be chosen through a districtwide lottery. The other half will be selected by the school. However, it isn’t just about luck. Each student must uphold solid academic, attendance, and behavioral standards to qualify for and maintain their position in these programs.
The district has streamlined the process with an online application system. This means you can apply for multiple magnet programs with a single application. For easy access, visit the district’s website. Hard copies of the application will also be available at your local school when the window opens.
The magnet programs will host open houses so you can learn more about the offerings of each program and find the perfect match for your child. The schedule for the open houses is listed below. For more information, email alachuamagnets@gm.sbac.edu, or call the Magnet Hotline at (352) 955-7629.
