OCALA, FL (352today.com) – Preparing for the peak of hurricane season? Starting this Saturday, you can do your shopping at a slight discount during the upcoming tax holiday.
This year’s second Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday starts this Saturday, Aug. 26 and runs through Friday, Sept. 8. During this period, Floridians are exempt from paying sales tax on many necessary hurricane prep items.
Sales tax exempt items include:
- Hygiene products (soap, hand sanitizer, toilet paper, tissues, sunscreen, etc.)
- Cleaning supplies (detergent, bleach, dish soap, disinfecting wipes, trash bags, etc.)
- Pet supplies (certain types of food, cat litter, puppy pads, waste bags, bowls, beds, kennels and carriers, collars and leashes, medications, etc.)
- Electronic devices (radios, batteries, fuel tanks, power banks, smoke alarms, generators, etc.)

You may have a lot of questions about the tax-free holiday ranging from whether the tax exemption applies to purchases online to whether there’s a limit on the number of items you can buy.
