GAINESVILLE, FL (352today.com) – The Gainesville Police Department (GPD) has arrested a man on charges relating to a deadly hit-and-run crash involving a scooter.
Police say on Thursday, Feb. 29, around 10:15 p.m. several people reported a hit-and-run crash in the area of 300 SW 34th St.
Witnesses reported a man on the ground and that a BMW drove away dragging a scooter under it.
GPD says paramedics transported the man to the hospital, but he died from his injuries.
Police say the witnesses were able to provide descriptions of the BMW, driver and possible license plate.
Investigators say witnesses reported a silver BMW traveling at a high rate of speed struck the scooter in a rear-end crash.
Due to the detailed descriptions, officers quickly responded to the home address of 36-year-old Clovis McNair and located the BMW.

Officers say they used a loudspeaker to request that McNair exit the residence.
GPD brought in its Negotiations Response Team (NRT) and Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT).
Police say around 5:30 a.m., McNair made contact with SWAT team members through a window and agreed to surrender.
GPD says a woman came out of the house followed by McNair who was taken into custody and booked into the Alachua County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
