GAINESVILLE, FL (352today.com) – The Gainesville Police Department (GPD) has arrested a man who they say broke into off-campus apartments of female University of Florida students.
Officers say they responded to “two separate sexually charged burglary incidents” in the early morning hours of Tuesday, July 30.
GPD says they arrested 36-year-old Troy Baker Robinson in connection with the break-ins of student residences.
Incident 1
Officers say the first incident happened in the 1800 block of NW 2nd Ave when a woman discovered Robinson entering her second story bedroom from the balcony.
“He stacked abandoned furniture in order to climb onto the balcony and make entry through an unlocked door,” said GPD in a news release. “The victim attempted to exit her bedroom and Robinson grabbed her and prevented her from leaving.”
Police say the woman started screaming which got the attention of her roommate. Detectives say when she came into the room, Robinson jumped off the balcony and ran away.
Incident 2
In the second case, officers say they responded to a 911 text message in reference to a burglary in progress in the 900 block of SW 6th Ave.
GPD says Robinson got into the third-floor apartment through another unlocked door.
“The female victim awoke to Robinson in her bed and unclothed,” said GPD. “In her startled state, she engaged Robinson in conversation and texted 911 while he was distracted.”
GPD says officers immediately responded and found Robinson still inside the residence.
They arrested him and transported him to GPD where detectives say he admitted to both crimes.
Robinson’s Background
GPD says Robinson was released from the Alachua County Jail on July 24, less than a week before these incidents.
They say he served 364 days for Aggravated Stalking and an Occupied Burglary.
“He was released on state supervised probation with an ankle monitor but cut it off two days later,” said GPD. “As a result, he already had two active Violation of Probation Warrants.”
Robinson is being held in the Alachua County Jail without bond.
In addition to the probation violations, investigators say he’s charged with Burglary and False Imprisonment for incident 1 and with Burglary and Attempted Sexual Battery for incident 2.
