OCALA, FL (352today.com) – Having the proper resources play a big role in anyone’s success.
And educators believe having the proper school supplies, can make a significant difference in a child’s future.
That’s the purpose of Marion County Public Schools’ (MCPS) MISSION: Bus Brigade. A group was out in full force on Tuesday, Aug. 6, outside the McPherson Government Complex.
The goal is to collect donations of new school supplies, children’s clothes, shoes, personal hygiene items, and monetary contributions for kids in need.
On this particular morning, ample donations were being loaded onto a truck in the parking lot, providing hope and a better future for those students who will receive them from school counselors.
“It’s a school supply drive for Marion County Public Schools, we provide those school supplies for homeless and needy children,” said Tom Butler, MCPS mental health and wellness liaison. “Each year, we come and collect the supplies from the board of county commissioners, and different locations like the hospital, our churches, our faith communities, and Stone Creek Association on State Road 200.”
The Forest High School girls’ basketball teams also took part in this week’s school supply collection effort.
“They assist us every year with this endeavor,” Butler said.
