OCALA, FL (352today.com) – Residents in Ocala are being asked to use extreme caution in the wake of recent storms that have downed power lines and knocked down or uprooted trees, creating hazardous road conditions.

Ocala Electric Utility (OEU) says that it is working around the clock to clear debris and restore electricity throughout the area, with safety as their top priority.

Officials warn residents to avoid driving over downed power lines, as they pose a serious risk of electrocution or fire. “Your caution helps keep our community safe,” said an OEU in a Facebook post, reminding you to stay away from any downed power lines and report them immediately.

In a Facebook update, OEU announced that additional mutual aid assistance from partners in North Carolina is expected to arrive this afternoon. These crews will bolster local efforts, helping to restore power to impacted homes and businesses more efficiently.

Crews are actively clearing trees and debris from roads, but OEU asks residents to stay clear of work zones for their own safety and to allow workers to do their jobs as quickly and safely as possible.

“We know this is a challenging time, and we appreciate the community’s patience as we work to restore power. Rest assured, we’re doing everything we can to get everyone back online,” the spokesperson added.
