CITRUS COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) has shared information regarding power restoration.

CCSO says that the Withlacoochee River Electric Cooperative, Inc. (WREC) crews are working around the clock to restore power in areas heavily impacted by Hurricane Milton, including CR 486 (Norvell Bryant Hwy) and SR 44 (Gulf to Lake Hwy). The hurricane brought unprecedented damage, causing widespread outages and downing thousands of trees and power lines.

In a statement on its Facebook page, WREC emphasized the priority of community safety, asking that residents to stay away from downed lines and report them immediately to local authorities. Despite the devastation, WREC crews, with assistance from additional out-of-state teams, say that they have made significant progress, restoring power to approximately 70% of the 170,000 affected homes and businesses.

The cooperative has mobilized all available resources to accelerate the restoration process, but they caution residents to prepare for continued outages, as full power restoration may still take several days. WREC expressed how thankful they are for the community’s patience and for the tireless efforts of linemen and contractors working to rebuild the area’s power infrastructure saying, “We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved in the restoration efforts. We also thank our members for their patience and understanding during these trying times.”
