MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – At the Oct. 15 Board meeting, the Marion County Commission (MCC) passed an emergency ordinance in response to Hurricane Milton.
This ordinance addresses the removal of storm debris from public and private properties, as well as roadways affected by the hurricane. The MCC says that it supersedes any conflicting regulations.
Although debris removal on private property is typically the owner’s responsibility, MCC acknowledged the safety hazards posed by the large amount of debris after large-scale disasters like Hurricane Milton. In certain cases, the county may assist with debris removal on private roads and properties to safeguard public health.
Debris collection in Marion County for tree and vegetative debris began on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2024. The county asks that residents place debris at the edge of the roadway, making sure that it’s clear of trees, power lines, or other obstructions. The deadline for placing debris out for pickup is October 27, 2024.
This service is limited to tree and vegetative debris, excluding yard clippings, construction materials, and household waste.
Additionally, three citizen debris drop-off sites are available through Oct. 27, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., at the following locations:
- Belleview Public Library, 13145 SE CR 484, Belleview
- SW Hwy 484 and SW 57th Ave. Rd., 5700 SW CR 484, Ocala
- NE Jacksonville Rd., 5823 NE Jacksonville Rd., Ocala
Residents must provide I.D. and live in an unincorporated area within Marion County to use the drop-off sites.
