GAINESVILLE, FL (352today.com) – The Gainesville Police Department (GPD) says a man who was driving to meet a minor for sex was met with their officers instead.
According to GPD, 57-year-old Norick Liu was arrested for chatting about sexual intercourse with an undercover officer posing as a child.
On September 13, GPD says the undercover officer began communicating with the suspect on a social app. The officer, presenting himself as a child told Liu that he was 13 years old, and the suspect proposed that the two exchange numbers.
According to the police department, Liu told the officer that he was 26 years old. GPD says he suggested that the two hangout and also began to engage in ‘sexually explicit’ conversation with what he believed was a child. Police say he even instructed the child on how to prepare for the intercourse.
On Sept. 14, Liu allegedly drove to meet the child and was met with officers instead. Officers also discovered that Liu had a condom and coconut oil which they say he later admitted was for their encounter. They say he also told officers that in spite of his conversation with the presumed child, he wasn’t ‘necessarily’ going to engage in sexual intercourse with the child.
The police department is warning parents to be aware that children are being solicited and exploited through social networking apps.
“Please be vigilant and aware of any social networking platforms your children may access,” said GPD.
Liu was arrested on charges of solicitation of a minor, traveling to meet a minor, and unlawful use of a two-way communication device.
