MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – The Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) is launching a comprehensive High Visibility Enforcement (HVE) initiative to address rising traffic safety concerns for pedestrians and bicyclists. The enforcement campaign will run through May 9, 2025, targeting two key areas with high rates of severe and fatal traffic crashes.

Targeted enforcement zones include:

  1. US Highway 441 from SE 173rd Street to SE Highway 42
  2. Maricamp Road from Oak Road to SE 88th Street

Funded through a partnership between the University of North Florida and the Florida Department of Transportation, the initiative focuses on improving road safety for the most vulnerable users. MCSO’s Traffic Unit will conduct strategic enforcement details designed to both educate and protect the community.

Sheriff’s deputies will prioritize education, emphasizing traffic law awareness and safe road practices. While the primary goal is to inform and prevent dangerous behaviors, violations may result in warnings or citations depending on specific circumstances.

The MCSO is providing critical safety reminders for all road users:

  • Drivers: Adhere to speed limits, avoid impaired driving, and remain vigilant for bicyclists and pedestrians.
  • Bicyclists: Follow traffic laws, ride with traffic flow, and use lights during nighttime riding.
  • Pedestrians: Use crosswalks and intersections, obey pedestrian signals, and ensure visibility, especially during low-light conditions.

This targeted enforcement effort underscores the Marion County Sheriff’s Office commitment to reducing traffic-related injuries and fatalities by promoting awareness and safe road practices.
