ALACHUA COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – Alachua County deputies have arrested a former Florida Gator football player for drug and firearm possession.
Earl James Okine, a former defensive end for the Florida Gators from 2008-2012, was arrested after deputies uncovered methamphetamine and a loaded handgun in his black Jeep SUV during a traffic stop.
Deputies say they performed a traffic stop on Okine’s vehicle after he failed to obey a stop sign.
After deputies established probable cause to search the vehicle, they reportedly uncovered 1.9 grams of crystalized methamphetamine, a small amount of Marijuana, and a handgun that was loaded with an extended magazine containing “multiple rounds” of ammunition.
Okine is charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of a Firearm while in the Commission of a Felony, and Possession of Marijuana less than 20 grams.
Along with playing for the Florida Gators for five seasons, Okine played on five separate NFL teams and had stints in Canadian and arena football.
