OCALA, FL (352today.com) – Driving to or from downtown Ocala at night? You might face some detours in the coming weeks due to a road closure on Southeast 17th Street.
According to the city of Ocala, a sewer force main must be replaced. The construction will block the intersection of Southeast 17th Street and Lake Weir Avenue, just south of downtown Ocala.
The closure began Sunday night, Oct. 1 and will continue every night from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. through Sunday, Oct. 15. During these times, travelers may experience delays, noise, dust and heavy equipment in the area. Various devices will be in place to redirect traffic, like barricades and detour signs.
Traffic traveling east on Southeast 17th Street will be routed south on Southeast Seventh Avenue, east on Southeast 18th Street, north on Lake Weir Avenue and finally back onto Southeast 17th Street on the other side of the construction.
Traffic traveling west on Southeast 17th Street will be routed north on Southeast 11th Avenue, northwest on Southeast 16th Street, south on Southeast Ninth Avenue, west on Southeast 16th Place, south on South Magnolia Avenue and finally back to Southeast 17th Street.
The city of Ocala has provided a map of the detour routes for traffic on Lake Weir Avenue.
