OCALA, FL (352today.com) – The City of Ocala has approved a nearly $2 million infrastructure upgrade to the Ocala International Airport.

The project will focus on enhancing the airport’s roads, utilities, taxiways, and aprons.

Along with city funding, five grants from the Florida Department of Transportation will be awarded to the project.

The city says the improvements are designed to accommodate future private investments and level out the increased demand caused by post-COVID development.

Airport Director Matt Grow says that the upgrades are also essential for supporting the region’s growth.

The city estimates that the project will be scheduled over the next two years.

These enhancements are merely the tip of the iceberg for the airport, which looks to add potential runway expansions, terminal improvements, and environmental considerations in the years to come.

This is perhaps the most significant addition to the airport since it opened a new $7 million terminal in 2020.

The city says the latest upgrades are expected to position the airport as a key asset in supporting Ocala’s growth and attracting more business to the area.
