OCALA, FL (352today.com) – Bodycam footage shows an Ocala police officer arriving on the scene of a man receiving CPR during a marathon race.
The Ocala Police Department (OPD) says that on May 10, a man collapsed unexpectedly during a local 5K race and stopped breathing.
Fellow runners, including an ex-paramedic and nurse, stopped to provide aid.
OPD officers, who were providing security for the event, quickly made their way over to provide additional help.
The footage shows the officers taking turns to provide the man with CPR, buying EMS valuable time.
The CPR was successful, and the man began to breathe just in time for EMS to arrive.
The footage shows the officers and emergency personnel smiling as the man responds to the paramedics’ questions.
“Thanks to the swift actions of the runners, police, and medical professionals—including the help from former Ocala Fire Rescue Assistant Fire Chief Brian Stoothoff, who was at the scene—his recovery is being called nothing short of miraculous,” said OPD.
