EUSTIS, FL (352today.com) — The roar of engines and rush of adrenaline will return to Lake Eustis as the Summer Showdown drag boat races speed into Ferran Park June 7-8, 2025. Organized in partnership with the Southern Outlaw Dragboat Association (SODA), the two-day event promises heart-pounding action on the water and family-friendly entertainment on shore—all with free admission.
“Boat racing has a long history in Eustis, but for many years it disappeared,” said Miranda Muir, Events & Tourism Manager for the City of Eustis. “We connected with SODA about three years ago, and they were so excited to bring the races back. It’s an awesome event that draws spectators from across Central Florida and beyond.”
Why locals and visitors keep coming back
What sets the Summer Showdown apart, Muir says, is the setting itself. “Ferran Park is absolutely beautiful,” she said. “You get great viewing areas, plenty of shade to cool off, and free parking downtown. It’s a fun and exciting day for the whole family.”

With Lake Eustis as the backdrop, spectators can bring lawn chairs, enjoy a lakeside breeze, and watch professional drag boats race at breakneck speeds. Between heats, families can explore food trucks, browse vendor booths, and connect with the local community.
Powered by SODA and the community
The Southern Outlaw Dragboat Association takes the lead on all racing activities. “Their expertise brings a full lineup of action-packed races,” Muir said. “They also prioritize safety, working closely with our city’s Fire and Police Departments and Lake County Emergency Management to make sure everyone, on and off the water, is protected.”
Each year, the Summer Showdown continues to grow. “More participants, more spectators, more vendors,” Muir noted. “It’s becoming a tradition that people don’t want to miss.”
Local boost and opportunities
The event offers a significant economic boost to local restaurants, shops, and hotels. “Visitors stay in the area and spend money, which is great for our community,” Muir said.
Local vendors interested in participating can find applications at eustis.org.
First-timers welcome
Never seen a drag boat race before? Don’t worry – just come out and enjoy. “This is a free event, so we encourage everyone to experience it,” Muir said. “Stop by the City of Eustis or SODA tents for more information and make the most of your day.”
