EUSTIS, FL (352today.com) โ€” The roar of engines and rush of adrenaline will return to Lake Eustis as the Summer Showdown drag boat races speed into Ferran Park June 7-8, 2025. Organized in partnership with the Southern Outlaw Dragboat Association (SODA), the two-day event promises heart-pounding action on the water and family-friendly entertainment on shoreโ€”all with free admission.

“Boat racing has a long history in Eustis, but for many years it disappeared,โ€ said Miranda Muir, Events & Tourism Manager for the City of Eustis. โ€œWe connected with SODA about three years ago, and they were so excited to bring the races back. Itโ€™s an awesome event that draws spectators from across Central Florida and beyond.โ€

Why locals and visitors keep coming back

What sets the Summer Showdown apart, Muir says, is the setting itself. โ€œFerran Park is absolutely beautiful,โ€ she said. โ€œYou get great viewing areas, plenty of shade to cool off, and free parking downtown. Itโ€™s a fun and exciting day for the whole family.โ€

With Lake Eustis as the backdrop, spectators can bring lawn chairs, enjoy a lakeside breeze, and watch professional drag boats race at breakneck speeds. Between heats, families can explore food trucks, browse vendor booths, and connect with the local community.

Powered by SODA and the community

The Southern Outlaw Dragboat Association takes the lead on all racing activities. โ€œTheir expertise brings a full lineup of action-packed races,โ€ Muir said. โ€œThey also prioritize safety, working closely with our cityโ€™s Fire and Police Departments and Lake County Emergency Management to make sure everyone, on and off the water, is protected.โ€

Each year, the Summer Showdown continues to grow. โ€œMore participants, more spectators, more vendors,โ€ Muir noted. โ€œItโ€™s becoming a tradition that people donโ€™t want to miss.โ€

Local boost and opportunities

The event offers a significant economic boost to local restaurants, shops, and hotels. โ€œVisitors stay in the area and spend money, which is great for our community,โ€ Muir said.

Local vendors interested in participating can find applications at eustis.org.

First-timers welcome

Never seen a drag boat race before? Donโ€™t worry – just come out and enjoy. โ€œThis is a free event, so we encourage everyone to experience it,โ€ Muir said. โ€œStop by the City of Eustis or SODA tents for more information and make the most of your day.โ€
