OCALA, FL (352today.com) – Summer sea breezes are finally arriving in our area, and they’re just in time to help clear out some of that Saharan dust that’s been drifting in. NOAA satellite data confirms that a thick Saharan Air Layer – a 2 to 2.5‑mile‑deep plume of dry, dusty air – made its way across the Atlantic settled over Florida much of last week. While most of the dust rides high in the atmosphere, it has brought hazy daytime skies and rich, colorful sunsets to our region.
But here’s the good news: now that our typical summer sea breezes are kicking in, they’ll help push that layer back offshore, thinning the dust and giving us clearer skies. NOAA meteorologists note that stronger marine flow should gradually reduce the haze, and with it, the dust-related air pollutants, making breathing easier – especially for those with asthma or respiratory issues. Expect steadier air quality and a brighter outlook for outdoor plans!
