Ocala drivers paying around $2.79 as crude oil surge and Middle East tensions spark fuel price concerns.
OCALA, FL (352today.com) – Florida drivers are seeing the lowest gas prices in a month, but that relief at the pump may be short-lived.
As of Sunday, the state average was $2.95 per gallon, down 14 cents from last week and the lowest it’s been since May 12, when prices dipped to $2.92. In Ocala, the average price is even lower at $2.79, according to GasBuddy.com.
“Escalating tensions between Israel and Iran drove oil prices higher last week,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesman for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “As a result, U.S. gas prices are expected to rise this week. The extent of the increase is uncertain, but drivers could begin seeing gas prices move higher on Monday.”
The U.S. price of crude oil rose 13% last week, closing Friday at $72.98 per barrel – up $8.40 from the week before and the highest daily settlement since February 11.
