Deputy finds firearm within reach of unlicensed driver Gary McMinn, who now faces new charges.
OCALA, FL (352today.com) – A Marion County deputy arrested a man during a traffic stop after discovering he was driving without a license and had a rifle within reach.
Deputy Abreu with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) pulled over a vehicle towing a trailer with no tag attached. The driver, identified as Gary McMinn, told the deputy he didn’t have a driver’s license, according to MCSO.
As McMinn was being handcuffed, MCSO says that the deputy noticed the butt of a rifle inside the vehicle, close enough for McMinn to access. A records check confirmed that McMinn is a convicted felon currently on probation, making it illegal for him to possess a firearm.
McMinn was arrested and booked into the Marion County Jail.
