OCALA, FL (352today.com) — The Ocala Police Department is stepping up traffic enforcement this summer as part of a statewide motorcycle safety initiative. In partnership with the Florida Department of Transportation, the department will conduct a high-visibility enforcement operation through September 2025.
The effort is focused on reducing motorcycle-related crashes by targeting traffic violations that put riders at risk. Extra officers will be assigned throughout the city, with enforcement taking place every day of the week, around the clock. Areas with high motorcycle traffic will receive particular attention.
According to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s 2022 Traffic Safety Facts, motorcyclists accounted for 6,218 traffic fatalities nationwide—15% of all roadway deaths. Motorcyclists are 22 times more likely to be killed in a crash than occupants of passenger vehicles.
With year-round riding weather, Ocala sees a high volume of motorcycles on local roads. Police are reminding drivers to stay alert and share the road, and urging riders to follow traffic laws and prioritize their own safety.
