OCALA, FL (352today.com) — At just 9 months old, Rubis has spent most of his young life waiting… for answers, for healing, and most of all, for a family.
This beautiful tabby boy arrived at the Humane Society of Marion County (HSMC) seven months ago showing signs of a respiratory condition. His breathing is labored and wheezy, but don’t let that fool you – Rubis is full of energy, affection, and the playful spirit you’d expect from a kitten his age.
Since his arrival, Rubis has been seen by several veterinarians and specialists, including a recent visit to Brick City Cat Hospital where he underwent an exploratory procedure. The result? A swirl of medical jargon and no concrete diagnosis. But while the mystery lingers, Rubis continues to thrive.
“He doesn’t let his breathing slow him down at all,” says Austin Burnett, Operations Manager at HSMC “He’s always up for playtime and loves attention. He truly is a special little guy.”
Rubis’s condition may remain undiagnosed, but one thing is crystal clear… his zest for life is unwavering, and his potential to bring love into someone’s home is undeniable.
Looking Past the Diagnosis
Because there’s no official name for what Rubis is experiencing, his future adopter will need to be someone open-hearted and open-minded – someone who sees Rubis for who he is today: a sweet, happy kitten who wants nothing more than a soft bed, a few toys, and someone to love him unconditionally.

The HSMC believes Rubis is ready. His symptoms have remained stable, and his personality has only blossomed over time. Staff are hopeful that the right person will step forward and see past the uncertainty, choosing instead to embrace the joy Rubis brings in the present.
Want to Meet Rubis?
Rubis is available for adoption now at the HSMC, located at 701 NW 14th Road in Ocala. If you’re looking for a companion who’s beaten the odds and still finds a way to purr through it all, Rubis may just be your perfect match.
Call 352-873-PETS (7387) or visit thehsmc.org to learn more about Rubis or to fill out an adoption application.
