GAINSESVILLE, FL (352today.com) โ€” Gainesville Police Chief Nelson Moya is urging the public to come forward with any information that could help solve the tragic shooting of 20-year-old Ontario Bayston, who was killed on Easter Sunday, April 20, near the TB McPherson Center.

โ€œWe want to bring attention to a case that we are working that is of high priority to our organization and to our community,โ€ said Chief Moya. โ€œThat is the tragic shooting of an innocent 20-year-old victim, Ontario Bayston.โ€

Police have released surveillance footage showing two individuals of special interest. One, wearing a gray hoodie and red shorts, is seen displaying and firing a weapon.

โ€œIt is important for us to know where he is before the shooting, who he was with before and after the shooting,โ€ Moya said. โ€œThis individual runs southeast along Southeast 15th Street.โ€

The second clip shows a crowd approaching the scene moments after the shooting, with one person seen running away.

โ€œThis individual is also of special interest,โ€ Moya added. โ€œWeโ€™re asking for your help in helping us identify who he is and anybody that may have had contact with him.โ€

Bayston, Moya said, was โ€œclearly caught in a crossfire.โ€

โ€œAs your Chief of Police, I am asking for your help,โ€ he said. โ€œOur detectives are working tirelesslyโ€ฆ We cannot do it alone. If you saw something, heard something or know anything, no matter how small it may seem, please contact us.โ€

Chief Moya emphasized the importance of community cooperation in the investigation: โ€œThis is not just a police matter. This is about us as a community standing together against violence.โ€

Anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Matt Quinn at 352-339-0506 or the GPD Tip Line at 352-393-7700.
