OCALA, FL (352today.com) – Get a taste of throwback horrors this October with EPIC Theatres of Ocala’s Flashback Cinema event featuring classic horror films from Young Frankenstein to Halloween. These classics will be screening for limited days and times for fans of these nostalgic films. For those looking for a thrilling experience with more gore, the Marion Theatre is also hosting Ocala Grindhouse 7, a double feature of two eerie films.

Young Frankenstein (1974)

Young Frankenstein, directed by Mel Brooks and produced by Michael Gruskoff, follows the grandson of Frankenstein (Gene Wilder) in a comedy adaptation of what the family of Frankenstein endured with his reputation.

Casper: 30th Anniversary (1995)

Casper, directed by Brad Silberling and produced by Steven Spielberg, is a 1995 movie based on the Casper the Friendly Ghost children’s book. The movie revolves around Casper (Malachi Pearson), a friendly ghost who haunts a large mansion. When a parapsychologist, Dr. James Harvey (Bill Pullman), moved into the mansion with his daughter, Kat Harvey (Christina Ricci), in search of the ghost of his dead wife, Amelia, things take a twist when Casper and Kat meet.

Corpse Bride (2005)

Corpse Bride, directed and produced by Tim Burton, follows the story of a young man, Victor Van Dort (Johnny Depp), preparing for an arranged marriage before running away. In his haste and conflicting feelings, he practices his proposal on a tree branch that looked oddly like a hand. This action took an eerie and chaotic turn through obsession, heartbreak and understanding.

Phantom of the Opera (2004)

Phantom of the Opera, directed by Joel Schumacher and produced by Lloyd Webber, is a dramatic musical that tells the story of unrequited love and acceptance. The phantom (Gerard Butler) follows Christine Daae (Emmy Rossum), who he has an infatuation with and wants to control. Raoul De Chagny (Patrick Wilson) is her childhood friend and love interest.

This adaptation of the classic love triangle novel will be on screen at EPIC theatres of Ocala on Oct. 19 and 22. Prices vary from age, day and time of the movie. Halloween (1978 – 2018)

Halloween is a classic slasher thriller series with 13 movies for horror and gore lovers. Although the movies have had a variety of changes over the years due to differing visions of directors with multiple plot changes and inconsistencies, all but two of the movies follow a similar theme. Michael Myers, a troubled serial killer that torments the town of Haddonfield, rampaging on Halloween night and killing its residents.

There are reruns of the series every hallowed season, however, it’s not every year fans of the franchise can see it on the big screen at EPIC Theatres of Ocala. The original 1978 movie that kicked off the franchise will be shown on Oct. 26, 29 and 31. Prices vary from age, day and time of the movie. Marion Theatre’s Ocala Grind House 7

The Marion Theatre in Downtown Ocala is hosting Ocala Grindhouse 7 where guests can watch a double feature with barf bags for the first 40 attendees. The double features include Tokyo Gore Police (2008) and Night of the Demons (1988). Tokyo Gore Police directed by Yoshihiro Nishimura is a Japanese sci-fi horror film following Ruka (Eihi Shiina), a cop attempting to stop mutant creatures. The film known for its extreme gore and surreal look. Night of the Demons is a cult classic horror film that follows a group of teenagers who do a seance on Halloween night, accidentally unleashing a demon and fighting for their lives. This film is known for its excessive gore, intense tension and comedy.

This event takes place on Oct. 18 with a $10 admission per person for the double feature and a chance to purchase the specialty drinks of the night.
