OCALA, FL (352today.com) – As part of an ongoing project to help strengthen the electric grid and improve service reliability for customers in Marion County, Duke Energy Florida is upgrading a transmission line and other structures running from the Shaw Substation to the Vanguard Substation to the Silver Springs North Substation in Ocala.

The project requires use of a helicopter to replace equipment along the line, impacting traffic between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. from Monday, Dec. 15 through Thursday, Dec. 18.

Please note, in limited cases, the work could continue past 5 p.m., and additional days may be necessary if the work is delayed due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

Residents, motorists and pedestrians should expect to see a helicopter overhead and traffic delays while the helicopter flies over streets. Drivers should plan for intermittent, brief road and lane closures, and visitors are urged to use caution in these areas for their safety and that of the workers. Please allow extra travel time.

Impacted areas include:

  • SW 38th Ave. / Lane closure
  • NW 38th Ave. / Lane closure
  • NE 35th St. / Road closure (no more than five minutes)
  • NE 36th Ave. / Road closure (no more than five minutes)
  • Quality Inn and Suites north of Hwy. 27 / Temporary traffic blockage (including pedestrian traffic)
