JACKSONVILLE, FL (352today.com) – The Orange and Blue are taking over Jacksonville with a weekend filled with Gator sporting events.
On Friday, Florida baseball will take on Georgia for their first exhibition game of the season. The game will be held at 121 Financial Ballpark starting at 6:30 p.m., and it’s an SEC matchup you don’t want to miss. It’s their third consecutive year taking on the Bulldogs in the fall. The two also faced off in 2019, according to Florida baseball. The Gators will be looking to win for the third time after securing victories in 2019 and 2022. If you’d like to attend, you can purchase tickets here.
After the game, there will be a 90’s- themed concert featuring artists Vanilla Ice, Young MC, Montell Jordan and Tone Loc.
Shifting gears to Gators football who will also take on the Bulldogs on Saturday for a highly anticipated matchup which is often called the “World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party.” The game will be held at the home of the Jacksonville Jaguars stadium, EverBank Stadium, and will kick off at 3:30 p.m. Fans from all over descend on “Duuuval” for one of the biggest rivalries to date.
Florida and Georgia’s rivalry dates back to 1953 when the two faced off on Nov. 7, playing in what was known as the “Gator Bowl.” From there, the rest was history. According to Gators football, the game was the first live broadcast for both schools.
Georgia leads the all-time series 54-44 and beat Florida 42-20 last year. The Bulldogs who currently are ranked number 1 in the nation and haven’t lost a game this season could present some challenges for Florida’s 5-2 team.
Head coach Billy Napier is no stranger to that.
“The team that plays the best on Saturday wins the game and certainly these guys have done it a lot, done it very often,” shared Napier in a press conference Wednesday. “I think the key here is that we focus on the things that we can control.”
Napier says that he believes in how he has prepared his team, and that the groundwork allows players to ‘play with poise.’
And as always, an upset is possible. If you can’t attend the game, you can catch the live broadcast on CBS.
