MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – The Marion County Office of the County Engineer, in coordination with its contractor, will continue intersection improvement work at SW 49th Ave. Rd. and SW 66th St. beginning Thursday, April 23, 2026. The work is being performed in 2 phases. The current Phase 1 will end Thursday, April 23, 2026. Phase 2 will begin on the afternoon of Thursday, April 23, 2026. Phase 2 is expected to be completed within 60 days, weather permitting.

Phase 2 allows for two-way traffic flow on all four lanes of the newly constructed segment of SW 49th Ave./SW 40th Ave. between SW 66th St. and SW 43rd St. Rd. Phase 2 will start a new closure on SW 66th St. from 0.7 mile west of SW 49th Ave. Rd. The existing closure on SW 66th St. from SW 49th Ave. Rd. to SW 38th Ave. will continue. Travel using SW 66th St. will continue to use the existing traffic control plan. See below for the temporary traffic control plan.

Crews and equipment will be on site during normal work hours and conditions. Crews will place barricades and signs directing detoured traffic around the intersection. Travelers should expect delays and use alternate routes, when possible. Adverse weather conditions and other unforeseen circumstances may affect schedules. Motorists are encouraged to plan for potential delays and drive with caution through the work zone.
