COW CREEK, FL (352today.com) – A wildfire in the Cow Creek area of Levy County has grown to about 1,400 acres and is 30 percent contained, according to the Florida Forest Service.
The fire, listed as the Cow Creek Fire, remains active in the Goethe State Forest area south of Bronson.
Forward progress of the fire has been stopped, but crews continue working hotspots as shifting winds and low humidity contribute to flare-ups. The incident report shows evacuation orders remain in place for areas near Henry Beck Park and west of County Road 326.
Levy County officials have also closed portions of County Road 326 between County Road 337 and U.S. Hwy 19 near the fire zone.
Emergency managers have opened a comfort center at the Levy County Board of County Commissioners office in Bronson for displaced residents and citizen information lines remain active to assist those impacted.
No injuries have been reported.
The Cow Creek Fire is one of several wildfires burning in North Central Florida as dry conditions continue to elevate fire risk across the region.
