ALACHUA COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – A 50-year-old St. Augustine man was struck and killed while crossing a street just northeast of Gainesville in Alachua County on the morning of Wednesday, May 20, 2026.
According to a report by the Florida Highway Patrol, the pedestrian attempted to cross SR 24 (Waldo Rd.) against traffic at the intersection of NE 57th St. at approximately 6 a.m. when he was struck by a sedan traveling northeast in the left lane of SR 24.
The report notes that the man failed to yield to traffic, and that “the roadway was not lighted at the time of the crash, and [the pedestrian] was not wearing reflective or high-visibility clothing, which reduced their visibility to approaching traffic.”
The man’s name has been withheld pending notification of next of kin.
