MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – Four people were safely rescued Tuesday night after their boat began taking on water while attempting to dock near the Silver River.

Marion County Fire Rescue crews were dispatched to Ray Wayside Park at approximately 9:18 p.m. June 16 after receiving reports of a boat carrying four occupants that was rapidly filling with water. Officials said the vessel drifted away from the boat launch as it began taking on water.

Rescue 528 arrived on scene at 9:28 p.m., followed by firefighters from Anthony Station 1 and members of MCFR’s Special Operations Team. Firefighters launched Special Operations Boat 81 and located the disabled vessel. By the time crews arrived, all four occupants had made it safely to shore about a quarter-mile downstream from the boat launch.

Boat 81 transported the individuals back to the launch area, where they were evaluated by emergency personnel. No injuries were reported among the boat occupants or responding firefighters, and all four occupants declined medical treatment.

MCFR credited the successful outcome to the quick response and coordinated efforts of multiple units, including Engine 1, Heavy Rescue 2, Rescue 528, Battalion Chief 2, Rescue 1, Boat 81 and Airboat 105.

The cause of the incident was not immediately released.
