TAVARES, FL (352today.com) – Amid the pomp, circumstance, fireworks displays, events and other elements taking place across the 352 in celebration of our nation’s semiquincentennial, Lake County is adding to its participation with the unveiling of a new monument commemorating the milestone.

“The story of America is also the story of local communities like ours,” said Lake County Chairwoman Leslie Campione in an announcement. “This monument is a reminder of the freedoms we enjoy, the sacrifices made by generations before us, and the responsibility we all share to preserve those ideals for future generations. We are proud to celebrate America250 here in Lake County.”

The monument will be unveiled in a ceremony beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2026, outside the Lake County Historical Museum at 817 W. Main St. in Tavares. The ceremony will feature remarks from county representatives.

“The monument highlights key moments in national, state, and local history, including Lake County’s formation in 1887 and the region’s role in Florida’s agricultural, transportation, and tourism industries,” read the announcement.
