OCALA, FL (352Today.com) – We’ve been seeing reports online that downtown favorite The Lodge has been forced to close. And those reports are true.

A bright red “Dangerous or Unsafe – Do Not Enter” notice was posted on Tuesday, July 1, 2026, on the popular pub and eatery at 36 S. Magnolia Ave.

The notice, issued by the City of Ocala Building Official, states:

“In accordance with sections 102.2, 111.4, 112.3, 115.1, and 202 of the Florida Building Code, this structure has been found to be dangerous or unsafe by the building official. The structure is unsafe for occupancy or use and must be vacated until repairs are made.”

It further notes that the building at 36 S. Magnolia Ave. (listed as 4th floor in the notice) “has been inspected on the exterior and interior and found to be dangerous or unsafe. It is unsafe to enter or occupy.”

According to supporting documentation, an engineering evaluation identified concerns with the building’s support system, including a relocated structural support, beam deflection, and inadequate bracing. Engineers concluded the building meets the definition of a “dangerous condition” under the Florida Building Code due to potential structural instability.

As a result, the City of Ocala’s Chief Building Official revoked the building’s Certificate of Occupancy and ordered it vacated. A full structural reevaluation could take 30 to 60 days once authorized by the property owner. There is currently no timeline for when businesses may be allowed to reopen.

The Lodge, owned by Johnny and Rachael Sanchez, has long been a downtown staple for dining, sports viewing and nightlife.

352today has reached out to the owners and city officials for additional comment.

This is a developing story.
