ALACHUA COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – The Alachua County Environmental Protection Department invites residents to attend a free workshop focused on saving money, conserving natural resources and improving their homes and landscapes on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2026.
The workshop is free, open to the public and will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the main meeting room at the Hawthorne Branch Library (6640 SE 221st St., Hawthorne).
Hosted in partnership with the Community Weatherization Coalition, the “Ways to Save, Conserve, and Beautify” workshop will feature short presentations on energy efficiency, water conservation, and tree and landscape planning, plantings and maintenance.
County staff will also share information about new state requirements for septic systems. Attendees will learn practical strategies they can use at home while discovering Alachua County programs and resources that support both household savings and environmental stewardship.
Residents can find additional event information on the Hawthorne Branch Library website and the County’s Climate Initiatives website. Participants are asked to register online to attend as space is limited.
Alachua County reminds residents that it is still experiencing a severe drought and urges residents to adhere to irrigation restrictions.
