OCALA, FL (352today.com) – Marion County Public Schools will participate in International Walk and Roll to School Day with an educational trip for students and their parents and guardians on foot or by bicycle from the Southeastern Livestock Pavilion to Oakcrest Elementary School on the morning of Wednesday, October 7, 2026.

First adopted by the U.S. in 1997, International Walk and Roll to School Day encourages parents and guardians to travel the route to school with their kids who get there by walking, bicycling or rolling via wheelchair, stroller or other conveyance. The annual event teaches safety, community engagement and active, healthy travel.

This year, Oakcrest students will gather with their parents or guardians at the Southeastern Livestock Pavilion at 6 a.m. on Oct. 7 and make the trip to school together.

“Following opening remarks from district and community leaders, students and adults will travel to Oakcrest and encounter everyday scenarios along the way including questionable characters, concerning obstacles, challenging traffic patterns, even someone searching for a lost animal or two,” read an announcement from MCPS, in part. “Students will arrive to school long before the 7:35 a.m. starting bell.”

The activities are being organized this year by the Marion County Community Traffic Safety Team, and are designed to improve situational and environmental awareness while promoting smart choices and improving confidence.
