MIAMI, FL (352today.com) – It may be very close to the end of hurricane season, but we’ve been here before, and now the National Hurricane Center in Miami is keeping a close eye on a tropical disturbance in the southwestern corner of the Gulf of Mexico.
The disturbance is just off Mexico’s east coast, and the latest report from the NHC—as of 7:31 a.m. on Tuesday, October 6, 2026—gives it a 90 percent chance of further development in both the next 48 hours and over the coming week.
“Continued development of this system is expected, and a tropical depression is anticipated to form over the next day or so while it drifts eastward,” read the report.
It’s too early to determine how strong the system might grow or where it might be headed, other than being “expected to turn to the north or northeast toward the Gulf Coast by the end of the week,” but the report adds that “interests from the Florida Panhandle to Louisiana should closely monitor the progress of this system.”
