MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – In the State of Florida, the term “school choice” refers to the network of public resources that allow resident families to opt to send their children somewhere other than their residence’s assigned public school.
It can be a daunting task to tackle, given the amount of options, from magnet, charter and private schools to homeschooling and other modes of online learning.
That’s where Marion County Public Schools‘ annual School Choice Magnet and Community Resource Expo comes in. It’s a place to learn about those options, hear from and speak to representatives and folks who’ve actually undertaken the curricula, and find out what support and resources are currently available.
“The free event takes place inside [World Equestrian Center’s] Expo Center 2 and provides first-hand accounts of academic and career opportunities available at every grade level throughout MCPS,” read the announcement. “Community resource groups will also offer support, distribute materials, and answer questions.”
This year’s event falls on Thursday, November 12, 2026, which is also the day the application window opens for school choice, magnet and Career Academy options. That application window closes January 31, 2027.
The School Choice Magnet and Community Resource Expo runs from 5-7 p.m. The World Equestrian Center’s Expo Center 2 is located at 1750 NW 80th Ave. in Ocala.
