MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – The Marion County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that it arrested 17-year-old Lake Weir High School student Jeremy Pitts in conjunction with a shooting in Silver Springs Shores on Friday, Nov. 14, 2025.
According to the report, the MCSO responded to a call at around 5:45 a.m. on Nov. 14, and encountered a single adult male victim with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. The victim and a reporting party said the victim had gone outside to confront someone the reporting party had seen on the property’s front patio via a doorbell camera. The victim was transported to an area hospital in critical condition. (His condition has since been upgraded to stable.)
The reporting party provided video footage of suspect, in a hoodie and surgical mask, searching the victim’s enclosed patio with a cellphone flashlight. The victim further informed detectives that he’d caught a young man named “Jeremy,” who was known to offer to do odd jobs in the neighborhood, on the patio earlier in the week, searching ashtrays for the remnants of the victim’s medical marijuana cigarettes. The reporting party identified Pitts as both “Jeremy” and the person with whom the victim had the earlier altercation via a photo line-up.
MCSO Major Crimes Detective Hunter McMurray learned that Pitts was a student at Lake Weir High and located him there later on Friday. During an initial interview Pitts claimed he was at home at the time of the crime; however, at some point after the interview Pitts made comments referring to the crime to a school employee. In a subsequent interview, he admitted to taking a handgun with him to search the victim’s patio for discarded marijuana, claiming he was confronted and assaulted by the victim and that he accidentally discharged the gun while it was pointed behind him as he fled.
Pitts was arrested for Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon, Armed Trespassing, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and transported to the Department of Juvenile Justice.
