LECANTO, FL (352today.com) – A 25-year-old was sentenced to 10 years in prison after entering a plea agreement for his arrest involving narcotics in 2021.

According to the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), deputies executed a search warrant of a home located in Lecanto, FL. After searching the home, deputies located multiple items used to sell drugs and arrested four people who were at the scene during the time of the search.

While detectives and SWAT team members were still at the scene, Mario Farmer, who was 23 years old at the time, pulled up to the residence.

Farmer, whom law enforcement identified as an active drug dealer from Sumter County, fled from the scene after they attempted to arrest him. Deputies were able to take the suspect into custody along with help from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the sheriff’s office, law enforcement saw the suspect throw multiple narcotics out of his window during their pursuit.

After further investigation, detectives recovered over three ounces of meth, four grams of heroin and over eight grams of cocaine.

Farmer was arrested and charged with trafficking meth and heroin, possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute and fleeing/eluding law enforcement. He was also arrested for two active warrants in Sumter County.

“A 10-year sentence for this convicted drug trafficker reflects our commitment to maintaining the safety and well-being of our residents. We will continue to work tirelessly to keep illegal drugs off our streets and hold those who seek to harm the citizens of our community accountable for their actions,” said Sheriff Mike Prendergast.

Farmer will serve ten years in the Florida Department of Corrections.
