OCALA, FL (352today.com) – Why would a bakery and coffee/sandwich shop that closes in the early afternoon be named after a creature that thrives long into the darkest part of the night?

Because while their customers are sleeping, the staff at downtown Ocala’s new Night Owl Bakery are working into the wee hours to produce the freshest artisanal bread and bagels possible.

Located at 56 SE 1st Ave., Suite 101–the former site of Soleil, another bakery–Night Owl evinces a hip coffeehouse vibe, with bookcases, comfortable seats, a wall of stylish bench-and-chair tables and plenty of natural light. And great coffee is certainly available, along with a variety of teas, and delicious breakfast and lunch sandwiches.

But it’s the bread that’s the shining star here. Baker Jessica Ferrara, who owns and runs Night Owl with husband Kevin, puts up fresh, handcrafted options daily. From hand-rolled bagels to sourdoughs, baguettes and more, every morning the bakery opens with a fresh spate of options, and when they’re gone, well, they’re gone-at least until tomorrow.

Night owl just opened to the public on Friday, Nov. 21, 2025, and is already creating a buzz among both foodies and those who just want a welcoming environment in which to enjoy a coffee and a bite before work. The bakery is still fine-tuning its hours as it adds another employee or two, but on weekdays this week you can drop by between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. until Thanksgiving–it’ll be closed Thursday and Friday for the holiday, but will reopen Saturday from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m.
