OCALA, FL (352today.com) — As Americans hit the road for Independence Day celebrations, AAA is stepping in to help keep them safe. The Auto Club Group has reactivated its Tow to Go program in select states, offering a free and confidential ride and tow for impaired drivers from 6 p.m. Friday, July 4, through 6 a.m. Monday, July 7.

“By offering Tow to Go, AAA helps ensure there’s no excuse for impaired driving,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesperson for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “Plan ahead, but if your plans change, we’re here as a last resort to help you get home safely.”

The service is available to AAA members and non-members in Florida and 10 other states.

To use Tow to Go, simply call (855) 2-TOW-2-GO for a ride within 10 miles. It’s intended for last-minute needs and cannot be scheduled in advance. Availability may be limited in rural areas or during severe weather.

The program comes at a critical time: nearly one-third of U.S. traffic deaths involve drunk drivers. In 2023, 12,429 people died in alcohol-related crashes – about one life lost every 42 minutes.

Since its launch over 25 years ago, Tow to Go has safely removed nearly 30,000 impaired drivers from the road.
