ALACHUA COUNTY, FL (352today.com) -The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) says that a hit-and-run crash involving an Alachua County school bus happened Tuesday afternoon on State Road (SR) 222.
They say that the incident took place while the bus was stopped with its warning lights and stop signs activated, dropping off students near the intersection of SR 222 and NW 69th St.
According to reports, a gray Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by a black male, illegally maneuvered between the westbound lanes of SR 222 to pass the stopped bus before continuing westbound. The bus driver was unable to get the vehicle’s license plate number during the incident.
FHP says that three students were on the bus at the time of the collision. No injuries were reported, and the bus sustained only minor damage. Law enforcement is investigating the incident and seeking information about the Tahoe and its driver.
Authorities remind drivers that passing a stopped school bus is illegal and poses serious risks to student safety.
