OCALA, FL (352today.com) – The City of Ocala, in partnership with national environmental solutions organization Green For Life (GFL), will hold an annual special “Waste Amnesty Day” on Saturday, Sept. 9.

“Special waste” includes items like household hazardous waste and electronics which cannot be picked up on normal garbage days. This collection event will allow residents to safely dispose of home items and keep them out of landfills and city water systems. According to the City of Ocala, previous events have kept approximately 30,000 pounds of special waste from harming the environment and community.

From 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., special waste can be brought to the collection center at Northeast 14th Street and Northeast Eighth Avenue. This collection day is only for residential waste, not businesses.

Examples of accepted hazardous waste items include:

  • chemicals for cleaning or yard work
  • paint
  • aerosol cans
  • oil
  • gasoline
  • other auto parts

Examples of accepted electronic items include:

  • mobile devices
  • CD/DVD players
