OCALA, FL (352today) – Welcome to the neighborhood.

The Villages has attracted another prominent global chain to the nation’s fastest growing micropolitan community.

According to a Sumter County Commissioner, Costco Wholesale Corporation will open sometime in 2025 on County Road 466, next to the Hobby Lobby and behind Fresh Market.

Sumter County Commissioner Don Wiley posted a YouTube video. In it, he confirms Costco coming to The Villages has been in the works for several years.

The membership warehouse club where you can buy products like toilet paper in bulk will be the third in the area, joining Sam’s Club and BJ’s Wholesale Club, both of which are located in Lady Lake.

According to Wiley, the structure will be 162,000 square feet and have 32 fuel pumps. The size of the average warehouse is 147,000 square feet, according to the Costco website.

Wiley says Costco selected the site not the developer.

Kristy Russell, the Sumter County economic development director, said the proposed location is in the unincorporated area of the county. But, she said a permit application hasn’t yet been submitted by the developer.

The company whose slogans include “Do the right thing,” and “Simplifying home and life,” is only accessible to those who purchase a membership.

Costco warehouses are open seven days a week. As of March, Costco has 876 warehouses with a global footprint which includes locations in Canada, Mexico, Japan, the United Kingdom, South Korea, Australia, Taiwan, China, Spain, France, Iceland, New Zealand and Sweden.
