OCALA, FL (352today.com) — With heartfelt lyrics and an indie rock vibe, Ocala’s own Heather Lynne is turning personal stories into powerful songs — and connecting with audiences all over the 352.

“I’ve had music, poems and a passion for performing in my heart for as long as I can remember,” says Lynne, who grew up putting on shows with her sisters. Though she didn’t pursue music seriously until later in life, she said, “I have always had it in me. I think I just needed the right push.”

That push came from her husband, Doug, who encouraged her to perform at her first open mic. “He went to every single one and continues to be a constant supporter,” she says.

Lynne’s debut album Caged Bird, produced by Chris Ryals of Mixhouse Productions, is now streaming on all major platforms. The project weaves in personal touches — including field recordings of birds she captured herself — symbolizing freedom and growth. “I finally felt like I was ready to share these stories with the world,” she says.

Ocala’s music community has played a key role in her journey. “I started out at open mics, developing as an artist alongside terrific musicians,” Lynne shares. She also praises her longtime guitar instructor and now bandmate Chris Ryals, saying, “We’ve grown into co-writers, bandmates, and he’s been my producer.”

With her full band — including Adam Rountree (bass), Johnathan Hurst (drums), Elliott Eisler (percussion), and Dave “Piano Man” Mathis (keys) — Lynne has expanded her sound and stage presence. “It’s a whole new way to express my songs,” she says.

She recently recorded a live version of her track Wrinkle Through Time at the Recording Ranch, where she and her band also filmed a music video. “It was awesome to record the song all together,” she says. “We even added lyrics to the video because making music accessible is important to me.”

Lynne describes her sound as a blend of singer-songwriter and indie rock: “I enjoy telling stories. I hope my songs are relatable.” Influenced by both national artists and local peers, she brings a joyful, high-energy vibe to her performances.

That spirit is central to what she calls her “positude” — a blend of positivity and gratitude she shares through music and small hand-painted “positude rocks” she gives out at shows. “I hope my songs make people smile, dance, and feel something good,” she says.

Looking ahead, Heather and her band are working on a new original song called “Flower People” along with several music videos. She also continues to perform solo sets around town.

For new artists just starting out, she offers this advice: “Don’t quit. Go to open mics. Be your authentic self. And remember — it’s never too late to try something new.”
