OCALA, FL (352today.com) – Ocala area residents looking for fuel up before the big Thanksgiving road trip are paying among the highest prices in Florida for gas as the price of fuel rises ahead of the holiday.
According to a report by the American Automobile Association, gas prices in the Sunshine State rose 20 cents per gallon last week, to an average of $3.10 per gallon, and Ocala is one of the three metropolitan areas in the state with the highest current at-the-pump costs–$3.17. Only West Palm Beach-Boca Raton and Naples have more expensive gas, at $3.26 and $3.20, respectively.
AAA anticipates that of the record-setting 81.8 million Americans expected to travel this weekend, 90 percent, or 73 million, will be driving. In Florida, 4.25 million residents are forecast to be on the road for the holiday.
Last year at this time, gas was $3.08 per gallon on average in Florida.
