BELLEVIEW, FL (352today.com) – A Belleview police officer has been arrested on drug charges including possession of methamphetamine.
According to the police department, on Sept. 15, the Belleview Police Department (BPD) along with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) arrested Gregory Freeman after being informed of him using methamphetamine.
On Sept. 7, the police department was also made aware that the 53-year-old officer reportedly made threatening statements leading Belleview Police Chief Terry Holland to believe Freeman may harm himself or others. They say he was taken into custody and required to give up all guns and ammunition. Freeman was suspended that same day, according to BPD.
After his arrest, detectives executed a search warrant of the officer’s home. According to the police department, they located 6.5 grams of meth inside of a bedroom closet and drug paraphernalia.
After further investigation, detectives discovered say Freeman also accessed law enforcement databases for non-related work requests and provided information to third parties.

Freeman was arrested and charged with two counts of unlawful computer access, one count of possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
“While I am angry and saddened that one of my officers would break the law by using drugs and accessing secure databases for personal reasons, I am extremely proud of the officers in my department and the investigators with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office for their work in swiftly bringing this case to a close,” said Chief Holland.
According to BPD, Freeman submitted his letter of resignation on Sept. 15.
