BELLEVIEW, FL (352today.com) – The City of Belleview is calling all youthful fishermen to the docks of Lake Lillian for the annual Fishing Derby and Community Cookout.

Registration is now open for the event, which will take place on Saturday, April 5, from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

“This event is one of our favorites each year,” said Mariah Moody, Belleview City Administrator. “It’s not just about fishing; it’s about bringing families and friends together in a supportive and joyful atmosphere. Watching kids light up with excitement as they reel in their catches is truly heartwarming. We can’t wait to see the energy and enthusiasm at Lake Lillian this April.”

The derby will feature two age group(er)s: 10-15 years old and 9 years and younger. TPrizes will be awarded for standout catches in both categories, though the specifics remain under wraps—you’ll have to fish for that information yourself! And don’t flounder in disappointment if you don’t snag a prize, because the fun continues even after the derby concludes.

Shortly afterward, the Annual Community Cookout, hosted by the Belleview Police Department will take place at the nearby Belleview Community Center.

“Our Fishing Derby and Community Cookout are all about celebrating the connections that make Belleview such a special place to live,” said Mayor Christine Dobkowski. “The derby provides an opportunity for young people to experience the joy of fishing while building confidence and camaraderie. And the cookout is a wonderful way to keep that sense of togetherness going. These events highlight the heart of our community.”

Robert Vass, Events and Promotions Manager, echoed that enthusiasm. “Every year, we see kids casting their lines and enjoying the day with their families, and it reminds us why we love putting on this event. The Fishing Derby isn’t just a competition – it’s a chance for kids to make memories they’ll treasure forever. And when you add the Community Cookout into the mix, it’s a day that truly embodies the best of Belleview.”

The event promises unforgettable experiences for the young, jubilant anglers and their families. Registration is limited, so be sure to sign up early for a chance to hook your spot at Lake Lillian.
