LEVY COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – UPDATE 6/7/2024: The Levy County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) says water levels along the Suwannee River have dropped enough to allow boat ramps to reopen.

LCSO says the following ramps are reopened:

  • Clay Landing
  • Camp Azalea
  • Fowlers Bluff

The sheriff’s office cautions boaters to maintain safe speeds as floating debris will continue to cause navigation hazards.

A representative from Gilchrist County also confirmed for 352today that boat ramps along the Santa Fe River reopened Thursday.

ORIGINAL 5/29/2024: Rising water is prompting the closure of boat ramps along the Suwannee River in Dixie and Levy Counties.

The Levy County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) says all boat ramps along the Suwannee River will be closing effective Wednesday, May 29, at 1:00p.m.

That includes the ramps at:

  • Clay Landing
  • Camp Azalea
  • Fowlers Bluff

The sheriff’s office says the water level is making the waterway hazardous for navigation. They say it’s also to help to ensure the safety of homes located along the Suwannee River’s banks. “Boaters navigating in or around homes on the river are asked to observe a ‘no wake zone’ to prevent damage to homes and docks.”

The Levy County Department of Parks and Recreation will monitor the ramps and notify the Board of County Commissioners when water levels have receded.

The sheriff’s office says barricades have been placed at the ramps and they ask you not remove them.

Levy County says the Dixie County Board of County Commissioners have also closed ramps along the Suwannee River in their county and Gilchrist County has closed ramps along the Santa Fe River.
