LEVY COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – Rising water has forced the closure of several boat ramps along the Suwannee River in Levy County.

The Levy County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) announced the closures on Saturday.

The sheriff’s office says recent heavy rains in counties to the north that drain into the Suwannee River have caused local waterways to flood making the boat ramps unsafe and navigation dangerous due to floating debris.

“Boaters navigating in or around homes on the river are asked to observe a ‘no wake zone’ to prevent damage to homes and docks,” said the sheriff’s office in a news release.

The sheriff’s office says the Levy County Department of Parks and Recreation will monitor the ramps and will advise when water levels have receded to safe levels.

Barricades have been placed at the ramps and department supervisors ask the public not to remove them.

Levy County says the following ramps have been closed:

  • Clay Landing
  • Camp Azalea
  • Fowler’s Bluff

Levy County says they have been told that the Dixie County Board of County Commissioners has also closed ramps along the Suwannee River. 352today has not been able to independently confirm that as of this publication.
