MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – A Marion County boxing coach is facing multiple felony charges after investigators say he sexually abused a juvenile student over several months at multiple locations throughout the county.
Detectives arrested Juan Carlos Quintero-Barrios, 64, on one count of lewd of lascivious molestation and eight counts of lewd or lascivious battery involving a victim between the ages of 12 and 16. According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, deputies began investigating on June 10, 2026, after the juvenile reported that Quintero-Barrios, her former boxing coach, had sexually abused her beginning in September 2025.
Investigators said the alleged abuse occurred at several locations, including Doghouse Boxing Gym, 4 Kings Boxing Gym, Quintero-Barrios’ residence, a hotel room and inside his vehicle. The victim told investigators the abuse continued for months and that Quintero-Barrios repeatedly warned her that “bad things would happen” if she disclosed what had occurred.
During the investigation, detectives obtained hotel records they said were consistent with portions of the victim’s account. Investigators interviewed Quintero-Barrios on July 6 after he agreed to meet with detectives. According to the sheriff’s office, Quintero-Barrios denied sexually abusing the victim. When questioned about hotel receipts, investigators said he initially claimed he had rented hotel rooms for another person before later admitting he had used hotel rooms to be unfaithful to his wife, though he declined to identify the woman involved.
Detectives arrested Quintero-Barrios following the interview. He was booked into Marion County Jail, where he is being held without bond. Investigators also noted that another witness described Quintero-Barrios as displaying inappropriate behavior toward young girls and recalled comments he allegedly made that raised concerns. The report also states that the sheriff’s office had previously received anonymous complaints alleging inappropriate conduct involving children.
Because Quintero-Barrios worked as a boxing coach with minors, detectives believe there may be additional victims. Anyone with information related to the investigation is asked to contact Major Crimes Detective Zachery Elliot at 352-671-3847.
The investigation remains active.
