OXFORD, FL (352today.com) – The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) has released details about the wreck that shutdown County Road 472 (CR 472) Monday night.
We now know that a 55-year-old Oxford woman died in the wreck.
What happened
Troopers say around 7 p.m. a 52-year-old Ocala man driving a Cadillac CTS was traveling westbound on CR 472 and a woman driving a Nissan Altima was traveling eastbound on CR 472.
FHP says the Cadillac driver was passing other traffic, entered the eastbound lane and collided nearly head-on with the woman driving the Nissan Altima, killing the woman at the scene. An 81-year-old man from Illinois who was in the woman’s car suffered serious injuries and was taken to an area hospital.
Troopers say the Cadillac flipped multiples times and that driver was also transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
UPDATE, 8/20/2024: The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) says the crash scene is clear, and County Road 472 is back open. We’re working to learn more information about the wreck and the conditions of those involved.
ORIGINAL, 8/19/2024: The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) is on the scene of a bad wreck in Oxford.
The sheriff’s office says an accident on Northeast 42nd Boulevard and County Road 472 is responsible the closure.
Deputies advise you to use alternate routes and avoid the area.
Witnesses tell 352today multiple emergency units have responded to the scene.
The Florida Highway Patrol is conducting an investigation.
