OCALA, FL (352today.com) – A Brooker man is dead after being struck by a car while running into traffic on Interstate 75 near Ocala, according to Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).

The crash occurred around 9:30 p.m. Thursday in the northbound lanes of I-75, just north of the U.S. Highway 27 exit. Troopers said the pedestrian’s vehicle was parked on the east-paved emergency lane when he entered the roadway.

Independent witnesses reported seeing the 44-year-old man darting in and out of traffic as vehicles swerved to avoid him. A sedan traveling northbound in the right lane was unable to avoid striking the man, troopers said.

Marion County Fire Rescue paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene. No one inside the sedan was injured.

The crash initially caused lane closures in the area. FHP continues to investigate.
